Preston City Council's Planning team has been nominated for a national award in recognition of their hard work and contribution to planning in the city.

The Planning Team, who oversee planning and development for the city, have been shortlisted for Planning Authority Team of the Year.

The Preston City Living Strategy has also received an award nomination from the Royal Town Planning Institute which recognises the role planning plays in creating vibrant and sustainable communities.

Councillor Peter Moss, Deputy Leader of Preston City Council and Cabinet Member for Planning and Regulation, said:

"Our planning team are fully deserving of this nomination for their continued hard work through what has been an extremely trying year. I am proud of all they have achieved.

"We are ambitious about sustainable and inclusive growth that benefits everyone in our community and central to that is the work of our planning team to ensure developments deliver real value to the city and that growth is achieved in the right way.

"It is also excellent to see the Preston City Living Strategy recognised. The pandemic has accelerated changes in the role city centres have to play and it is vital that new ideas and ambitious schemes like ours are put in place to support our city centre in continuing to be vibrant for years to come."

The winners will be announced during a ceremony held virtually in the Awards Room on Evessio at 4pm on Thursday 29 April 2021.

RTPI President, Wei Yang FRTPI, said:

"Many congratulations to all the finalists at this year's RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence - these projects, teams and individuals showcase the very best of the planning profession from all the RTPI's regions and nations and from countries around the world.

"For over 40 years, these prestigious awards have celebrated the exceptional work undertaken by town planners. In the middle of a global pandemic, I believe they are more relevant than ever before, recognising the incredible commitment and dedication of planners who have risen to the challenge of responding to the impacts of Covid-19 on the planning system.

"I wish all the finalists the very best of luck at the ceremony on 29 April."
