Exciting plans for The Harris

The Harris will temporarily close from 5pm on Saturday 2 October.

Organise a clean up event

Hands in the air for volunteering

A clean up (litter picking) event is a great way to bring the community together for a common cause and clean up your local area at the same time.

Where can you host them?

You could host a litter pick event on one of Preston's beautiful parks, make a project out of a back alley or clean up a local street. This community led event requires lots of team work so it's crucial to get your neighbours on board.

Who can host and join them?

Anyone over the age of 18 can be the lead organiser for a community litter pick event.

We would also advise that a member of your team is first aid trained in case of emergency. We encourage groups to get children involved however all children must be supervised by an adult.

How many people can take part?

We would recommend a minimum of 5 people for the event with a maximum of 30 people.

Apply to host a clean up event

To apply to host a clean up event please complete the following online form:

Apply to host a clean up event

Please note: there is no charge to host a clean-up event.

What happens next?

Once your application has been processed we will let you know if you are able to go ahead with your clean up event.

A member of the Parks or Streetscene department will contact you within 7-10 working days to confirm your event and provide further help.

We will provide you with a risk assessment that can be adapted for your event and a checklist to follow to ensure that your event runs smoothly.

Tips for organising a successful event

The number one tip for holding a clean-up event is to plan early, work out exactly what you'd like to achieve and get in touch as soon as possible so that Preston City Council can provide clean up support.
