Following a recent study on Dementia Awareness we have made a commitment to become 'Dementia Aware' as an organisation and to ensure that our services can be responsive to the needs of people affected by dementia. To support this, an action plan has been developed to progress the recommendation's contained within the study. This can be found in the documents section titled Preston City Council Draft Dementia Action Plan.
We believe that the best way that this commitment can be achieved is through supporting staff to become more aware of the needs of people affected by dementia and to understand how often small changes in how services are delivered can make a massive difference to people affected by the condition. A number of staff have now become Dementia Champions and have committed to provide Dementia Friends information sessions for their colleagues.
We will also be working with our partners in order to establish a Dementia Action Alliance which is the coming together of organisations from the public, private and voluntary sectors to improve the lives of people with dementia and enable Preston become more dementia friendly as a city.
