We are committed to improving the standards within the private rented sector in the City.
Whilst most landlords act responsibly and in accordance with law, there are a proportion who do not and it becomes necessary for us the Council to deal with them by way of enforcement to protect the safety and welfare of their tenants.
As a result, the Council intends to introduce the Civil Penalties Policy as an alternative to prosecution in some instances.
The proposed policy can be found in the documents section on this page.
Prior to this policy becoming formally adopted by the Council, we are currently consulting with stakeholders in the rented City’s sector and would be grateful if you could provide your views and any comments.
You can do this by completing our online consultation form, for the adoption of the Civil Penalties Policy.
In order to allow adequate time for your response and ensure it can be considered as the policy develops prior to final approval by the Council’s Cabinet, please return your comments no later than 20 January 2019.
