Important COVID-19 notice: for general guidelines on the use of our city centre car parks during COVID-19 see city centre car parks and COVID-19.
Market Surface Car Park is a short stay facility and one of four pay and display surface car parks owned and run by us (Trinity Square car park, Penny Street car park and Hill Street car park being the others).
Virtual pay and display means that you no longer need to find change for pay and display machines or display a physical ticket in your car when parking. Details on how to create a virtual stay can be found on the side of each Pay and Display machine.
Please note: you can still pay using our pay and display machines and display a ticket.
Fast, flexible, easy to manage
Our car parking pay and display prices are based on duration of stay. All charges apply each day and the car park operates the following tariffs.
Please note: all vehicles parked are required to display a valid pay and display ticket, disabled badge and time clock or have a virtual stay created.
To pay for virtual pay and display parking visit:
MiPermit - pay for virtual pay and display
Please note: for additional features and faster payments visit MiPermit - register for an account.
Once you have created a virtual stay, your vehicle details will be added to our officers' hand-held computers in real time to let them know that you have paid.
The car park offers two designated disabled parking spaces for blue badge holders.
Blue badge holders can park up to 90 minutes in a designated disabled parking bay with no return within 2 hours. Parking charges apply at all times.
A valid blue badge and clock set to the time of arrival must be displayed in the windscreen of your vehicle before leaving the car park.
Please note: all car park spaces require the display of a valid pay and display ticket or have a virtual stay created at the prices shown.
Motorcycle parking is allowed in the designated and signed area only with the purchase of a virtual stay.
Please note: Motorcycles should not park in any other area of the car park.
Whilst there is no entrance height restriction in place at this car park there is an exit height barrier of 5 metres. Motorhome customers must purchase multiple tickets to cover the number of spaces that the vehicle uses and display all valid pay and display tickets. Virtual stays cannot be made for multiple spaces.
To pay or challenge a parking fine (Penalty Charge Notice) see parking fines (Penalty Charge Notices).
