Concessionary travel and bus passes

From April 2011, Preston City Council is no longer the Travel Concession Authority for the Preston area. This responsibility has now passed to Lancashire County Council.

In order to see if you are eligible for a National Concessionary Travel Pass, then please see the NoWcard website or by contacting the helpline on 0845 058 1096.

How do I apply for a NoWcard?

If you are applying for a NoWcard because you meet the age criteria

  • your sole or principal residence must be in Preston
  • you must be able to supply proof of your age (birth certificate, passport)
  • you must be able to supply proof of your address (utility bill)

If you are applying for a NoWcard because you have a disability:

  • your sole or principal residence must be in Preston
  • you must be able to supply proof of your address (utility bill)
  • you must be able to supply suitable evidence of your disability.

You can apply by

  • downloading the relevant application form from the NoWcard website and taking the completed form to the One Stop Shop at the Town Hall on Lancaster Road, where a digital photograph will be taken (there is no need to supply your own photograph or make an appointment)

Opening Hours

  • Monday to Thursday 9.00am to 12.30 and 1.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Friday 9.00am to 12.30 and 1.00pm to 4.30pm

Please note that only new applications for a Nowcard will be dealt with by the City Council.

For all other enquiries in connection with lost, stolen and replacement cards and renewals will be dealt with by the Nowcard helpline Monday to Friday (8.00am to 5.00pm) on 0845 058 1096.

On what services can I use the NoW Card?

Preston concessionary travel pass holders will be able to travel free of charge on any Local bus service anywhere in England (please note the scheme is not valid in Scotland and Wales).

At what times of the day can you travel free on local services?

The National travel pass allows free travel on local bus services after 9.30am on weekdays. Travel undertaken before 9.30am will be charged at full fare. The National travel pass will however, allow free travel at any time of the day at weekends and on Bank Holidays.

Who is eligible for a concessionary travel pass (NoWcard)?

Changes on eligibility took effect from April 2010. Please check the NoWcard website for eligibility or telephone 0845 058 1096.
