Car sharing is when there is more than one occupant in a private car. We all share cars regularly, with our friends and family, without thinking about it. But there are often times when a driver has empty seats in the car because they don't know of anyone who needs a lift.
This car sharing service puts people travelling in the same direction or a similar destination in contact with each other, allowing them to arrange to travel together and save money by sharing the cost, whilst also reducing congestion and pollution on our roads.
Shared Wheels will also improve accessibility and mobility and help to build social networks.
Shared Wheels is not just about the journey to work, it will also help you plan your leisure and recreational journeys - such as trips to the shops and sporting events.
If you are interested in this service, you can register for free at shared wheels - join for free.
Shared Wheels has been developed in partnership by Blackpool Council, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Lancashire County Council and Lancaster University.
The aim of Shared Wheels is to maximise your travel options whilst helping to reduce traffic congestion and pollution. There are over 38 million empty seats on the UK's roads every weekday, so by registering with Shared Wheels and sharing some of your car journeys you will be helping to make our roads cleaner, safer and traffic free.
