Public and community transport

Preston has a wide range of public transport options available for residents and visitors.

Public transport in the Preston district is co-ordinated by Lancashire County Council. They are also responsible for providing transport to school (where appropriate), information, concessionary travel schemes and more.

Community transport

Community Transport services provide accessible transport across Lancashire for people who are unable to use conventional public transport or live too far away from an ordinary bus route. The service is delivered by community transport groups and voluntary car schemes.

Telephone

Lancashire County Council and Lancashire bus operators jointly fund the county's traveline service on 0871 200 22 33.

This forms part of a national network of that provides up-to-date timetable information on local bus services between the hours of 8.00am and 8.00pm. Calls are charged at standard rates.

Bus timetables

Timetable leaflets are available from a wide range of public buildings including:

  • libraries
  • council offices
  • information centres

Leaflets are either produced by Lancashire County Council, (providing details of all buses operating along a particular route) or by the bus operator (providing information about the services they run).

On request the county council will produce large print versions of any leaflet or translate leaflets into other commonly used languages free of charge.

Bus shelters

Not all bus shelters in Preston are owned and maintained by Preston City Council. There are in fact a number of organisations that hold responsibility for various types of shelters including:

  • Various Parish councils (only a handful of shelters)
