The SPD sets out the guidelines used in determining planning application's for extensions and alterations to residential properties.
The SPD was subject to a consultation process between 29 October 2012 and 10 December 2012 which resulted in eight responses being received. These can be found in the Consultation Statement in the documents section of this page.
The final version of the SPD was adopted on 10 April 2013 and replaces Supplementary Planning Guidance Note 7 Residential Alterations and Extensions Design Guide.
Since the adoption of the SPD the government has increased the size limits for a single storey rear extensions that can be build without planning permission. The larger home extensions scheme is subject to certain conditions and a special procedure. More can be found on the Planning Portal extensions page.
