Feeling unwell?

Help to manage demand for A&E services and 999

If you do feel unwell remember that 999 and the Accident and Emergency departments are for those who are seriously ill or emergencies.

Think twice before calling your GP.

Consider using one of the following NHS options for help and advice when you are unwell:

  • NHS Choices is a dedicated website where you can find up-to-date and expert advice on a range of illnesses and complaints.
  • If you have an illness and are not sure what to do, call NHS Direct on 0845 56 57 or visit their website at www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk and get advice directly from a health professional (Calls cost a maximum 5p from a BT landline.)
  • Your local high street pharmacy can provide confidential, expert advice and treatment for a range of common illnesses and complaints, without having to wait for a GP appointment.
    • If you are ever unsure where your nearest pharmacy is, simply text ‘pharmacy’ to 64746. You will receive three free texts with the details of your local pharmacies.
    • Or, find your nearest pharmacy by postcode on the NHS choices website search.
