We have received a grant of £1,725,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund for the Moor Park Restoration Project.
The Heritage and Big Lottery Fund grant is part of a £2,165,000 project which aims to bring Moor Park back to life. Improvements will be made to paths, park furniture and heritage features such as the Observatory.
The aim is to fully restore the park, closely following the original 1864-67 blueprint of landscape designer, Edward Milner.
The project includes the creation of a regional skate park as well as improvements to the:
The park will also benefit from the creation of an events area, provision of a snack bar and cricket pitches as well as signage and interpretation.
Comprehensive volunteering, training and activity opportunities will also be provided.
You may have noticed over the winter that significant work has been carried out by contractors in various areas of Moor Park to complete some of the improvements funded by the Heritage
A subsequent phase of works estimated at £1.1million will be developed to restore the Serpentine Lake to its original scale and reinstate the ornamental footbridge.
The construction of the skate park is now complete and open for use. Thanks to all the partners and funders involved in the project, the facility is already proving popular and is a fantastic asset to the Preston community.
The skate park can be found at the Deepdale Road side of Moor Park, opposite Preston North End football stadium.
Note: there are restrictions to the free use of the car park when Preston North End are playing home matches. Details are in the document titled 'Moor Park Skate Park car parking notice' on this page. You can check the dates of PNE home matches on their website.
