Ashton Park is located to the far west gateway into Preston. It is adjacent to Blackpool Road, Pedders Lane and close to Preston Docks. It is easily accessible by car, bicycle or on foot.

Ashton Park won its first Green Flag Award in 2011/12 and has retained this each year since. The national Green Flag Award scheme recognises excellence in greenspace management and measures criteria such as; cleanliness, maintenance, sustainability, community involvement, heritage, nature conservation, health, safety, security and overall management.
The park boasts an attractive open landscape with a fine colonnade of trees, small woodlands, flower displays and a peace garden. The park also contains two children’s play areas, two bowling greens, tennis courts and nine football pitches. In additional it is home to Ashton Health Centre and Busy Bee's Childcare Nursery which is located in Ashton House.
Public car parking is available on site and is accessed from Pedders Lane.
Ashton Park has its own dedicated park ranger who carries out patrols and inspections to make sure that the park is tidy and safe. In addition the ranger organises environmental, historical and creative events for schools, community groups and the general public.
Established in 2002, the Friends of Ashton Park work in partnership with the Park Ranger and the council. The Friends play a major role in the organisation of community events and contribute to management decisions, they also help raise funding for improvements and new facilities.
