A great day out for all the family, the Harris Museum and Art Gallery is a treasure trove of fantastic art and fascinating objects. Come and explore our remarkable collections of fine art, costume and textiles, ceramics and glass and history, all housed in a stunning Grade I listed building.
We’re proud of our roots – did you know that we house the largest collection of Preston Guild memorabilia in the world? With Preston Guild 2012 around the corner, the Harris is the place to come to discover the history of the Guild!
There’s always something new to see with our vibrant programme of exhibitions that change regularly throughout the year, including our exciting contemporary art and new media programme.
As well as special workshops and activities taking place during the school holidays there are lots of regular free activities for families to join in with – here’s just a flavour:
Join us on the first Monday of every month and sing, play and create together – a real sensory experience using sound, touch, colour and even smell!
Held on the first and third Saturday of every month. Hands On has something new to try each time with activities suitable for everyone in the family to have a go at!
Young Harris meets once a month on a Saturday to work with our staff, volunteers and artists on projects that relate to the Harris Collection.
Want to delve deeper into history or uncover the stories behind the artworks? There’s something for all levels of interest –whether you just want to find out a bit more about some of the key events and people that have shaped our city (and some of the treasures found in the area) or whether you have a specialist interest in a specific artist or historical period. Visit the website: www.harrismuseum.org.uk for details of tours, expert talks and events taking place.
The Museum Café is a beautiful setting in which to enjoy lunch, or simply take time out in the most striking architectural space in the city.
There’s also a museum shop stocking gifts, books, toys and cards, many of which are inspired by the Harris’ collections.
Blue badge parking is available in Jacson Street. There is a ramp at the museum entrance and you can borrow a wheelchair. Guide and assistance dogs are welcome. An induction loop is fitted throughout the galleries. We have a ground-floor accessible toilet and baby-changing facilities.
