How council tax is spent

We collect all council tax, but only keep 17 pence in every pound to pay for our services. The rest (83 pence in every pound) goes to Lancashire County Council, Lancashire Police Authority and Lancashire Combined Fire Authority to pay for the services they provide.

From April the council increased our council tax by 2.5%.

An average Band D for Preston City Council’s proportion of the bill has increased from £253.25 to £259.58; an increase of 12p per week.

The council continues to improve efficiency and deliver better value for money services to it’s tax payers. Further information on spending plans is outlined in the Medium Term Financial Strategy below, or see our information on where does your council tax go?
