We would like your views on proposed changes to our council tax support scheme, changes that would see it mirror the housing benefit scheme.
Each year, the council needs to review its Council Tax Support (CTS) scheme, to ensure it not only meets the needs of the local area, but also that it continues to be affordable.
To date, the council has maintained the same 20% reduction in support levels for working age customers, meaning that those on the lowest income can receive up to a maximum 80% support towards their Council Tax bill.
If we want to make changes to our Council Tax Support Scheme we must, by law, ask you about it.
This year the council is consulting on some minor changes to the CTS Scheme that will benefit claimants, primarily to extend the backdating criteria and to keep the scheme in line with the Housing Benefit Scheme, ensuring consistency and reducing confusion.
You can take part by completing our online survey, you have until Friday 15 September to complete the survey.
We will consider what you tell us and produce a consultation report, which we will publish on our website, with any decisions made.
