What can I put in my green food waste container?

Food Waste Collections

In Preston approximately 15,000 inner city properties have a weekly food waste collection for cooked and uncooked food. Properties have a caddy for in the kitchen and a larger container which they can keep outside and present for collection. Properties are also provided with biodegradable bags to line their kitchen caddy. All the food waste collected is composted at Farington Waste Technology Park.

You can use your kitchen waste container for the following items:

  • Fruit
  • Vegetables
  • Peelings
  • Eggs
  • Meat
  • Fish
  • Bones
  • Leftover food
  • Tea bags
  • Coffee grinds

Please do not use your food waste containers for food packaging, plastic bags, general waste or liquid.

Remember only to use the biodegradable bags provided by us to store your food waste. If you run out of bags please leave a note for the collection crews in your green container on collection day or contact us on 01772 906905.
