Preston City Council continues to undertake residual functions on behalf of the Highway Authority. However, the majority of queries regarding roads, highways and pavements will be dealt with by Lancashire County Council (Highways) .

Lancashire County Council maintains and improves approximately 3528 miles of road, 1402 bridges, 229 traffic signals, 219 signalled pedestrian crossings, and 153,000 street lights each year. Whether it's a faulty street light, a pot hole or a road that needs salting, Lancashire County Council is the organisation that do it. Below is a list of their responsibilities:
