The Environmental Health team and other local authorities in Lancashire, have received a number of complaints regarding an allegation that there is plastic within chapatti flour.
These complaints state that when the dough is “washed,” the result is a plastic-like consistency.
However, this is what happens to flour when it is mixed with water. The proteins in the flour lead to the formation of gluten and after kneading the dough you are left with a soft, elastic dough.
This is completely normal that dough is both stretchable and has an elasticity that allows it to go back to its original shape.
