Your completed registration form needs to be with us by Wednesday 18 April 2012 to be in time to vote at thelocal elections on 3 May.
Rolling Registration enables the register to be updated once a month on the dates listed below. This means that you can register throughout the year and you can re-register if you move house.
You can download and print a Voter Registration Form (PDF 100KB). It is one form per address, not per person. The form cannot be completed online as we need the signature of each person registering.
The application form asks for your name, current address, previous address (or address where you were last registered) and nationality. If you are 16 or 17 we ask for your date of birth then we know the date you will be eligible to vote. You also need to mark the form if you are over 70 then you will be excluded from Jury Service.
If you tick the box to request a postal vote, a personalised application form will then be sent out to you for completion and return. Once this has been completed you will be sent voting papers at the next election and you will no longer go to the polling station to vote.
You can request to "Opt Out" of the Edited Register. If you choose to opt out by putting a 'x' in the box, your details cannot be purchased by third parties eg marketing companies.
Once you have completed and signed the form next to your name, please return it to:
Electoral Services Town Hall, Lancaster Road Preston PR1 2RL
Voter Registration Forms are also available from the Town Hall Reception area, or you can call 01772 906908 and we will post one out to you. Alternatively, you can register on the About My Vote . Please note that you will still need to print and sign this form and post back to us.
Once the form has been received, and providing the form has been signed and completed fully, your details will then be amended / added to the register.
There are statutory dates when your information will be updated, they are as follows:
Forms are delivered to every home across Preston normally during August.
When the form arrives you need to check the details immediately. If there are no changes to make you can register by calling the freephone number printed on the form, or you can register by internet.
If any details are incorrect and need to be altered, you need to make the necessary changes on the form, sign it and then post it back to the Town Hall, free of charge in the envelope provided.
More detailed information will be provided before the start of the 2012 canvass.
