There may be times where we are alleged to be responsible for causing loss or damage to a property or even causing bodily injury. In such instances if we can be shown to be legally liable, for example Negligent we will offer compensation through our Insurance Company.
There is a 2 tier system of local authority operating in Preston which confuses many residents.
Lancashire Count Council are the Highway Authority and are responsible for the inspection, maintenance and repair of the Carriageways (Roads and Pavements) throughout the County generally but more specifically from our perspective, roads and pavements within Preston.
Therefore to avoid any doubt, if you have suffered Loss, Damage or Personal Injury arising from a perceived alleged defect in or on the Public Highway then you need to submit your claim to Lancashire County Council (not Preston City Council). At the following address:
Litigation and Employment Section,
County Secretary and Solicitors Group
Lancashire County Council
PO Box 78
Generally Preston City Council only has responsibility to maintain its Parks and Various Open Spaces, Car Parks and a limited number of pathways. (not Highway Pavements) For example those on its land around the dock basin (Riversway).
If you have suffered loss, damage or personal injury on Preston City Council land please write to:
Mr I Carroll (Insurance and Risk Manager) Governance Directorate, Town Hall, Lancaster Road, Preston, Lancs PR1 2RL.
You must detail exactly when and where the incident occurred (preferably with photographs, the nature of your injuries and why you consider that we are responsible, we will investigate and report the matter to our Insurers for them to handle on our behalf.
Alternatively you can email the details to firstname.lastname@example.org. All claims must be made in writing.
Solicitors lodging a claim against Preston City Council (again for non highway related matters only) need to register the claim on the Insurance Claims Portal, for their information our Insurers details are as follows:
