Whether you are living in halls of residence or private accommodation during your time at university, you need to be aware of the refuse and recycling services that you can use.
Recycling in private accommodation
If you are living in private accommodation you will have access to a comprehensive recycling scheme where you will be able to recycle up to 65% of all your waste. For further information visit our main rubbish, waste and recycling pages.
You should have a grey wheeled bin for all your non-recyclable waste. If you are recycling all that you can and are still struggling to reduce your waste to an amount suitable to cope with fortnightly collections your landlord should arrange for the payment for additional waste containers or collections. For more information visit our Help with your bins pages.
You can download a kitchen poster to remind you what you can recycle or you can contact the recycling team to request an education pack.
Recycling in halls of residence
Many halls of residence now have their own recycling services. Contact your management company for more details of your scheme.
If your site does not yet have recycling we may be able to help. Contact the recycling team for more information.

This year Preston City Council have asked Students to pledge to be NICE. By pledging to be Noise Aware, Considerate, Clean and Environmentally Friendly students were given a free education pack and entered into a prize draw.
