Welcome to Web-Labs
| |
Is your web site there to look pretty or to perform a useful function? Web Labs believe strongly it is the latter and that a web site should meet the client’s objectives and also provide a return on investment. We specialise in the development of Content Management Systems, whether you need a large
Enterprise Content Management System (ECMS), a Self Build Content Management System or a bespoke solution we have the skills and solutions to provide you with a functional web site that you can easily maintain with non technical staff.
What are you expecting from your web site?
How can we meet these objectives whether they are: -
- Marketing your products/services
- Providing more information to your customers/stakeholders/ratepayers
- Providing a 24 x 7 on-line service
- Improving your organisations image as part of a comprehensive multi media campaign
We bring some strategic thinking to the project as we are developers we understand that functionality, download speeds, ease of navigation all contribute to your 'customers' perception of your web site. We design your web site so that it is both functional and intuitive and yet complies with all the standards that you specify including all the accessibility standards e.g. W3C WA1-A, WA3-A and the system complies with Government Interoperability Framework, e-GIF.
We also have developed an Electronic Forms System (e-Forms) (web forms) (net forms) to enable our customers to collect information on-line and or carry out on-line surveys and consultations. We would expect to also integrate our CMS and/or e-Forms systems with your legacy systems so that they are web enabled and provide a better service to your ‘customers’ whilst saving time and cost.
As our development staff are in the UK we are able to listen and rapidly respond to our clients needs, as well as our bespoke developments this has resulted in our developing many other systems and proven applications software modules that can be economically redeployed these include:
- SMS Text Messaging
- Recruitment Administration and Publishing
- Resource Booking
- Shopping Basket
- Events Booking
- Community Portal Building
- Self Service
- Advanced Search Engine
- Automatic categorisation and Taxonomy

Content Management System for web portal development
To provide access by all groups to increased information about the community is a pivotal component of Central Government's vision of providing Britain with a modern image and the ability to compete in a global economy. To accommodate this Web-Labs have designed a 'Content Management System' especially to enable 'Communities' to design and build their own web site in minutes and to be totally sustainable by community leaders with no IT skills and at very low cost.
The utilisation of our automatic categorisation to classify content will make the process even more 'fool proof' and ideal for the part time voluntary worker tasked with entering content.
The complying with the ODPM's priority Outcomes could not be simpler the system provides the web presence for Parish Councils, Town Councils, Voluntary Groups, Clubs, Surgeries, Societies and Councillors and the Content Management System ensures the project is sustainable with remote authoring and low cost.
All the web sites developed by the Content management system comply with e-GIF and accessibility standards W3C
Modules designed to support the Content Management System include:
Council meetings/agendas/calendars
Local Events
Vacancies/ Job Recruitment
Resource Booking of Rooms and Courts
History
e-Cards
Donations
Production of Accounts
News
Business Directories
Councillors / Elected Members

Advanced Search Engine with automatic categorisation / automatic classification system.
Many organisations have large 'information stores' (located on web sites, intranets, document management systems etc.) however, this information is generally not used efficiently i.e. it is not a 'Knowledge Management Repository'. To enable your information stores to be 'cross referenced' and to become a 'Knowledge Management Repository' it is necessary to implement: 1. Automatic Classification 2. Advanced Intuitive Searching
SearchMaster provides these capabilities to organisations wishing to benefit from a powerful but easy to use 'search engine' that will consistently and automatically categorise all of their digital assets wherever they are held, this saving of time and cost this will assist local government and central government clients to comply with the demands of the Gershon report.
SearchMaster will 'spider' external sources of information and return content according to specific categories / classifications enabling a knowledge base to be created and easily maintained.
The system when automatically classifying content will provide a 'suggested list' of classifications that can be manually edited if the 'operator' chooses to add or delete a specific category /classification.
The Driving Standards Agency are using the SearchMaster system to automatically categorise all their digital assets according to the IPSV taxonomy.
Winchester City Council will support their Content Management System by using SearchMaster system to provide an advanced conceptual search engine on their web site and to auto categorise content according to the LGCL taxonomy and to comply with the Hampshire County Councils common categorisation system.
