Guild Logo

Preston has a new sign at the gateway to the city!

Preston City Council has revitalised the welcome sign on London Road to highlight the exciting year ahead for the area. Not only is Preston celebrating the Guild in 2012, but also being named the European City of Sport.

The European City of Sport designation and its connection with Preston Guild will enable a wealth of activity to take place in 2012 encouraging greater participation and ultimately a more healthy population, leaving a lasting legacy.

Events for Preston Guild 2012 are taking place throughout the year, particularly from 1-10 September. The sign also points to Preston City Council being a Living Wage employer as well as incorporating the Fair Trade logo.

Councillor Peter Rankin, Leader of the council, said:

“This is a very exciting year for the council and the people of Preston. This sign shows people arriving in the city just what we have to offer.”

Councillor Tom Burns, Cabinet member for advice services, culture and leisure, said:

“The council is highlighting a number of initiatives with this sign. I would encourage all the communities of Preston to come together and take part in the different Guild and sporting events in and around the city this year.”
