Preston’s campaign to promote the living wage features in a new national report by the Fair Pay Commission. Examining the economic impact of the ‘big four’ supermarkets (Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco), the report considers the potential for the UK’s main supermarkets to pay the living wage of £7.20 an hour.
Council bosses in Preston are now consulting on their budget proposals for 2012/13. The budget proposals set out total savings of £2.5m over the next five years from council budgets. A council tax rise of 3.5% for 2012/13 (from £259 to £268 per Band D property) for the Preston City Council element of council tax (17% of the total bill) is also proposed.

Organisers of the MWR Solicitors Preston Sports Awards are delighted to confirm that the guest speaker for this year is Baroness Sue Campbell CBE. Following the launch in January, preparations are now well underway for one of the most popular events on Preston’s sporting calendar. The 7th Annual MWR Solicitors Preston Sports Awards will be held on Friday 9th March at Preston Guild Hall. With the city being designated European City of Sport 2012, coupled with Preston Guild and the Olympic year, the awards will be going that extra mile this year.
Preston City Council has successfully prosecuted a man in relation to dog fouling offences that took place in Moor Park. Terence Utting of Milner Street, Preston, was seen letting his dog foul on 22 October 2011 and not picking up after it.

Preston City Council is proud to announce the launch of a brand new healthy food project. Bags of freshly picked fruit, vegetables and salad will be available for sale each week from West View Climbing and Leisure Centre.
