D.Vercity

An exciting disability arts and culture festival that came to the area earlier this year has been nominated for an award from the DaDa Deaf and Disability arts agency.

The D.verCity European Festival of Disability Arts and Culture visited various locations in Preston and Lancaster between August 25th and September 6th. Organised by Preston City Council, UCLan and DISC in Preston alongside other partners in Lancaster, the festival featured a wide range of art work created by professional disabled artists and proved to be a great success.

That success has now been recognised by a nomination in the Community Event/Group category in the 2009 DaDa Awards.

After making the final shortlist with just 2 others, it is now up to the people of Preston to make D.verCity the winner by giving them their vote on the DaDaFest website before 5pm on Tuesday 1st December.

Councillor Christine Thomas, cabinet member for community services, said:

“A lot of hard work went in to organising the D.verCity festival and it is fantastic to see this effort being applauded by DaDaFest. It would be an even bigger achievement to see local residents supporting the event and naming us as winners, so we would love to see the community to casting their votes for D.verCity today!”
