Join the park rangers at Fishwick Bottoms Local Nature Reserve and celebrate National Tree Week.

On Sunday 29th November the Rangers will be testing their coppicing and hurdle-making skills – harvesting the wood from Hazel trees and using the timber to make traditional hurdle fencing, a method has been used for many years as a way of producing sustainable timber.

The event runs between 1pm and 3pm on Sunday and is open to everyone, meeting at the football changing rooms on London Road.

Also as part of National Tree Week, BBC Breathing Places has teamed up with Guinness World Records for Tree O’ Clock: a nationwide challenge to plant more than 600,000 trees within a single hour. Preston City Council has pledged to plant at least 300 trees on Ashton Park to help set this record.

Tree O’ Clock needs as many people, schools, workplaces and community groups as possible to muck in. People can either plant a tree in their garden, or come down to Ashton Park on Saturday 5th December from 11am to 12noon.

So why not grab your wellies and roll up your sleeves, and help us set a brand new Guinness World Record to celebrate National Tree Week.
