A special ceremony to dedicate new stained glass windows at Preston crematorium is taking place at 3.00 p.m. on Wednesday 1st July 2009.

The new stained glass windows are part of a recent refurbishment at the crematorium that has also seen new painting and decorating and a new sound system installed.

The four new stained glassed windows, designed by Longridge based glazing company Harlequin Glass, represent the city of Preston, the earth, sea and the sky.

The new windows are designed to improve the setting of the crematorium and are being dedicated to the thousands of people who have passed through Preston crematorium since it opened in 1962.

The dedication ceremony will be led by the Mayor of Preston, Councillor Keith Sedgewick who said:

“The new stained glass windows are a tasteful addition to the crematorium. For people attending the crematorium it can be a distressing and upsetting time, so it is important that we make the surroundings as sympathetic and pleasant as possible.

“I am pleased that the crematorium has been improved and am very proud to dedicate these new stained glass windows. The windows have something for everyone and the ceremony will be a chance to remember past family and friends.”
