August 15th promises to be a sensational day for Preston, with a top line-up of pop stars set to draw a 15000 crowd at a free concert in Avenham Park.
Rock in the Park, supported by a Partnership between the Business Improvement District (BID), Rock FM and Preston City Council, is set to be the largest music concert to take place in the City Centre in more than ten years.
Ken Williams, Chairman of the BID Steering Group said
“It’s great to see so many high profile acts coming to Preston. The key aim is to bring in more visitors, helping to boost the local economy in a time when businesses need the trade. This is exactly what City needs and we are delighted to have funded it. Our overriding objective is to make Preston a more pleasant place in which to live, work, invest, and visit – and the free concert, along with our many other activities will achieve this. “A full line up is set to be disclosed over the next week but we can announce that headlining the free gig are artists such as Peter Andre, Pixie Lott, JLS and Beverley Knight”.

“The concert see’s a bill of chart topping artists and a host of new uncompromising and exciting musical performers. These performers will certainly appeal to a wide range of age groups and musical tastes”
Dean O’Brien – Rock FM’s Programme’s Director, added
“We are absolutely delighted to be able to bring some great artists and bands to Preston and put on a free concert. It’s nice to know that people won’t have to pay for tickets and we will get a chance to give something back to our listeners. We are really excited about it”
Councillor Ken Hudson, Leader of the Council has said:
“The council is thrilled to be supporting Rock in the Park, which is set to be a very positive event for Preston and an exciting day for its residents. As we build up towards the 2012 Guild such occasions really bring the community together, and are a fantastic way to celebrate the success of the city”.
