Heritage tour of Preston Cemetery

Preston Cemetery is holding a heritage tour on Sunday 5th July, leaving from the cemetery office at 2pm.
The tour of the grounds will highlight its many historic features and some of the famous headstones, including that of Private William Young, one of Preston’s Victoria Cross winners who received a special floral tribute last month.
Visitors will also have the opportunity to access old burial records, and ask any questions they may have about the cemetery.
The Lancashire Wildlife Trust will also contribute to the tour, giving an insight into the local flora and fauna, and free refreshments will be available for all visitors.
Councillor Anthony Gornall, cabinet member for environment and regeneration, said;
“Preston’s cemetery plays a key part in the history of the city. The tour will provide an excellent opportunity for residents to learn more about this fascinating heritage, and may even encourage more people to explore their own family histories”.
Background Information
