Tuesday 5 May 2009, will see the Mayor of Preston host a Fairtrade fashion show at Preston Minster, in aid of local charities. The fashion shows will showcase the latest in Fairtrade fashion and designs. There is also the chance to buy Fairtrade jewellery, accessories, bags, foods and crafts. The Fairtrade fashion show is in aid of Mayoral charities – SCOPE and Emmaus. Councillor John Swindells, Mayor of Preston said:
This is a fun event to raise money for local charities. Preston is a Fairtrade city and the fashion show is a great chance to raise awareness of how Fairtrade is helping communities in less developed countries and really making a difference to people’s lives. Tickets are on sale now at just £6 - which includes a free glass of Fairtrade wine!”
Anne Garsed – Chair of the Preston and South Ribble Fairtrade Group added:
It is five years since Preston first became a Fairtrade city – one of the first Fairtrade cities in the UK. Since then, Fairtrade has gone from strength to strength and this fashion show will highlight the range and quality of Fairtrade products that are now on offer, as well as raise money for charity.”
