Council bosses in Preston are now consulting on their budget proposals for 2012/13. The budget proposals set out total savings of £2.5m over the next five years from council budgets. A council tax rise of 3.5% for 2012/13 (from £259 to £268 per Band D property) for the Preston City Council element of council tax (17% of the total bill) is also proposed.
Preston’s campaign to promote the living wage features in a new national report by the Fair Pay Commission. Examining the economic impact of the ‘big four’ supermarkets (Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Tesco), the report considers the potential for the UK’s main supermarkets to pay the living wage of £7.20 an hour.

Preston has a new sign at the gateway to the city! Preston City Council has revitalised the welcome sign on London Road to highlight the exciting year ahead for the area. Not only is Preston celebrating the Guild in 2012, but also being named the European City of Sport.
