Working within all of the city’s major parks the Ranger Service aims to improve the quality of life for Preston people now and for future generations through the promotion, protection and development of safe and accessible parks and green spaces. They provide an identifiable presence promoting a sense of personal safety and confidence for park visitors.
They also carry out practical conservation work, environmental education, organise events and activities and they are the front line guardians of the ecology of the parks, seeking to protect wildlife, encourage bio-diversity and promote sustainable development.

The park rangers work with the local community to develop the parks through park Friends groups and encourage the use of the parks as a recreational and lifestyle resource. They also work with local schools to help develop and educate our young people. Their work compliments school programmes and the national curriculum subjects of English, maths science, geography, citizenship and art. This enables the children to learn more about their local environment as well as enhance their learning experience.
All our park rangers are first aid trained and are CRB checked.
Volunteering
We now have a number of volunteer rangers who help with a variety of tasks. If you would like to volunteer, whether that’s to carry out practical work, help with events or to experience what it’s like being a ranger, contact the Parks Service on 01772 906471.
