Local development framework
This is a collection of documents that will be used to promote, develop and inform planning for the Preston area over the coming years. To understand what the local development framework is, how it affects you and what important documents are within it, please follow the link on the left hand side.
We have just completed preferred options work on the most important document within the local development framework: The Core Strategy which is available to download from the local development framework page. This will be submitted to the Secretary of State in 2009.
The Regional Spatial Strategy is the plan for the development of the region on issues such as employment, housing, transport and the environment. It sets the blueprint for the production of local development frameworks and local transport plans. It is part of the statutory development plan for every local authority in the North West and provides a framework for development and investment up to 2021. If you would like to read it please follow the link to the Government Office of the North West's web page for more information.
Local plan
The local development framework replaces the local plan. The Preston local plan was adopted on 26 April 2004. The plan conforms with the joint Lancashire structure plan prepared by Lancashire County Council, Blackpool Council and Blackburn Council.
