The benefits, verification and fraud unit are responsible for the following:
- Investigations of all cases where information is provided or obtained which suggests potential Fraud.
- Data matching with other bodies in order to safeguard public funds.
- Maintenance and monitoring of service level agreements with outside bodies including the Department for Work and Pensions and Lancashire Constabulary .
- Visiting claimants prior to payment being made.
- Provision of a visiting service to the disabled, elderly and others with special needs to assist them in claiming housing and council tax benefit.
- Maintaining the requirements of the security guidance, specifically in relation to visiting high risk groups.
