Mayor of Preston 2009/10 - Councillor Keith Sedgewick

Councillor Keith Sedgewick

Councillor Keith Sedgewick has been elected as Mayor of Preston until May 2010.  Keith has served on Preston Council for nine years, representing the Ashton ward.  He has served on various committees, including Planning, Resources and Environment Committees and has served as a Cabinet Member for Environment and was Chair of the Employment Committee and also its Appeals Plan.

Councillor Sedgewick is married to Patricia and they have two grown up children and two grandchildren.  Keith recently retired from BAe in Warton, Lancashire and prior to this the majority of his working life was spent in the Royal Air Force.

Councillor Sedgewick said:

“It’s a great honour to be offered the chance to be the 635th Mayor of Preston and follow the long line of people who have contributed so much to Preston over many years.”

“My chosen charities are: the North West Air Ambulance which provides a “Care from the Air” service in the event of serious accidents in which the speed of medical care is crucial, and the Preston and District Veterans Council which consists of 20 ex-service associations across all three armed services. This Council ensures that the roles played and sacrifices made by veterans in the many conflicts are not forgotten, and that help is available for veterans in need. Also throughout the year we will also be looking for other “Good Causes”.

“During my year in office, I would also like to raise the profile of the voluntary and community sector throughout the city. Enthusiastic volunteers put in a vast amount of time and effort organising a considerable number of events across Preston, they also provide vital services for all sections of the community. Their efforts often go unnoticed, but without them a vital part of community life would be lost. I would like to encourage more people to come forward and help in this city of ours.”

“Over this next year it would also be marvellous to see the Tithebarn Redevelopment Project move forward, and to see the preparations for the 2012 Guild gain momentum!”

I look forward to my year in office alongside my wife Patricia, who will be Mayoress.”
