Mayor of Preston 2010/11 - Councillor Albert Richardson

The Mayor and Mayoresses

Councillor Albert Richardson was born in Kendal, Cumbria, being the eldest son in a family of eight children.

Albert had a primary school education in Kendal and from 1953 to 1956 enlisted in the Armed Services.

Early in his career, Albert took employment as a British Rail Fireman, following which he worked for the Milk Marketing Board and then for Somic. Albert finally formed a manufacturing company in textiles where he has worked until retirement, very recently.

Councillor Richardson was elected to Preston City Council in 1978 to represent the Deepdale (now St. Matthew’s Ward) Over the years he has served as the Chair of Environmental Health and Control, Chair of Leisure Services, Chair of Equal Opportunities, Chair of Licensing and Chair of Eastern Area Forum. Councillor Richardson was Mayor of Preston for the year 1990 -1991.

Councillor Richardson is single and to assist him in his Role as Mayor of Preston will be his Mayoresses : Honorary Alderman Rose Kinsella who is a past Mayor of Preston and Miss. Sheila Crook, J.P.

Councillor Richardson currently has membership with The Labour Party, Co-op Party, Acregate Labour Club, GMV Union, RASC Association, and ICV.

During his year in office Councillor Richardson’s chosen charities will be Vine House and Alzheimer's Society (Central Lancashire Branch).
