What is an Area Forum?

Area Forum meeting

Preston City Council has five Area Forums - Central, Eastern, Western, Rural, and Northern area forum. For dates and times of these meetings select the links on the left hand side.

Each Area Forum covers a particular area of the city and meets regularly throughout the year. The meetings are attended by Preston City councillors and one of the main purposes of the meeting is to allow you to have your say on issues relating to you and your community.

Have your say!

By attending an Area Forum you can find out what's happening in your area, have your say and influence the decisions that you know best about and which most affect you. The forums are lively and popular, with attendances for 2009/10 averaging over 23 per meeting.

Who attends?

Area Forums  bring you together with city councillors, county councillors, parish councillors and representatives of other agencies, such as the police and health service and local community groups that attend the Area Forum.

You can take part in any consultation on council matters which specifically affect your community. This could include traffic and highway problems, leisure provision or crime and disorder issues.

The council will also be using the Area Forum meetings to link into issues of policy and strategy such as the development of the Waste Management Strategy or integrated transportation systems. Area Forums enable you to express your views on policy and strategy affecting your area.

How Can I Participate in the Area Forum Meetings?

Each Area Forum has a 30-minute 'Question Time' in which you can ask a question.

If you would like a formal response to your question, you can put it writing before the meeting by contacting n.heckford@preston.gov.uk .

What Doesn't An Area Forum Do?

The Area Forum is not a replacement for councillors' surgeries - if you have an individual case or concern you should still take this up with your local councillor at the ward surgery. The Area Forum can not discuss individual cases or concerns such as planning application's or application's for housing benefit, for example.
