Licensing authorities can issue gaming machine permits which allow additional category C and D gaming machines in alcohol-licensed premises.
A gaming machine is defined by the Gambling Act 2005 as a machine that is designed or adapted for use by individuals to gamble (whether or not it can also be used for other purposes). For example: fruit, slot, or jackpot machines.
The cost depends on the type of application made. For details see gambling fees.
Any alcohol licensed premises are entitled to two category C or D gaming machines upon notification to a licensing authority.
Complete the ‘application for a licensed premises gaming machine permit or notification of 2 or less gaming machines' from the documents section and return to Preston City Council:
Environmental Health Department
Payment can be made by through the licensing office on 01772 906910 (option 1) using a debit or credit card.
The licensing authority will send you confirmation for two machines or less within 5 working days of receiving the application. This should be kept in an easy to reach place to be produced on request by the Police, Council or Gambling Commission.
The application form and return address is the same one used to notify the licensing authority of 2 or less gaming machines.
The licensing authority may either grant or refuse an application.
In granting the application, we may alter the number and category of gaming machines authorised by the permit. We will issue the permit as soon as possible after that.
If we refuse the application, we will let you know as soon as possible with reasons for refusal. We must not refuse an application, or grant it for a different number or category of machines, unless we have notified you of our intention to do so and given you the opportunity to make a representation.
A reminder letter will be sent out to you one month before your annual fee due date detailing how to make payment. For charges see gambling fees.
