Gambling Act 2005

There are three types of licence required by the Gambling Act 2005:

• An Operator Licence concerned with the management and conduct of gambling.
• A Personal Licence for persons with key operational functions connected with the gambling business.

The council is responsible for the issue of Premises Licences. Premises Licences cover the following:

• Adult Gaming
• Betting
• Bingo
• Casinos
• Family Entertainment Centres
• Track betting

There are currently no casinos based within the Preston area.

The Gambling Act 2005 also covers the issuing of Permits for various activities:

• Club Gaming
• Club Gaming Machines
• Family Entertainment Centre Gaming Machines
• Licensed Premises Gaming Machines
• Prize Gaming

The Act also allows the council to register small-society or non-commercial lotteries.
