At least one legible No-smoking sign must be displayed in a prominent position in smokefree premises. It is advisable to display signs at all entrances. Signs must meet the following minimum requirements:
"No smoking. It is against the law to smoke in these premises".
On the sign, the words "these premises" may be changed to refer to the particular premises where the sign is displayed, for example "this gym", "this salon" or "this restaurant".
A foreign language version of the "no smoking signs" can also be used, as long as it also displays the words in English.
A smaller sign consisting of the international no-smoking symbol at least 70mm in diameter may instead be displayed at entrances to smokefree premises that:
Smokefree vehicles must display a no-smoking sign in each compartment of the vehicle in which people can be carried. These no-smoking signs must display the international no-smoking symbol at least 70mm in diameter.
It is the duty of the manager of the smokefree premises to obtain their own smokefree signs. They can be bought from many retailers. The Health and Safety team has a limited supply of stickers that can be obtain free upon request, alternatively they can be downloaded from this page.
