There are three types of licence required by the Gambling Act 2005:

  • An Operator Licence concerned with the management and conduct of gambling.
  • A Personal Licence for persons with key operational functions connected with the gambling business.

For further information on how to apply for an operator or personal licence visit the 'Gambling Commission' website.

  • A Premises Licence for the property where the gambling takes place.

The Council is responsible for the issue of Premises Licences.

Premises Licences cover the following licensable activities, namely:

  • Adult Gaming
  • Betting
  • Bingo
  • Casinos
  • Family Entertainment Centres
  • Track betting

There are currently no casinos based within the Preston area.

The Act also covers the issuing of Permits for various permissions:

  • Club Gaming
  • Club Gaming Machines
  • Family Entertainment Centre Gaming Machines
  • Licensed Premises Gaming Machines
  • Prize Gaming

The Act also allows the council to register small-society or non-commercial lotteries.
