Last week was my final full week as Mayor of Preston, and I took the opportunity to visit the North West Air Ambulance on Thursday 13 May. I have supported this charity throughout the year, and it was a pleasure to meet the crew and see how they go about their life-saving work. I was also busy presenting awards to some of Preston’s very talented young gymnastics, at a competition at West View Leisure Centre.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as Mayor, and would like to say thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout. The whole year as been a highlight, and has been truly diverse and varied, with visitors from Poland, France and even Australia. I have met many different people, each with their own stories to tell and a sunny-faced and cheerful outlook no matter what their circumstances. It has also been an extremely busy year, with a total of 375 engagements!
My final day will be this Wednesday 16 May, when the annual Mayor making ceremony will take place at the Town Hall and Councillor Albert Richardson will take up the post. I wish him all the best for the coming year, and hope that he enjoys it as much as I have. Councillor Richardson will also be carrying on with the blog, so please do continue to follow it and read about his time as the Mayor of Preston.
