Preston is a Fairtrade city
Preston became a Fairtrade city on 24th June 2004.
Being a Fairtrade city means that residents, businesses, schools and colleges in Preston are doing their bit to end global poverty by buying, selling and promoting Fairtrade goods.
To become a Fairtrade City, Preston had to meet the following criteria: -
- The Council must pass a resolution in support of Fairtrade and serve Fairtrade coffee and tea in its canteen and meetings.
- A range of Fairtrade products must be available in the shops and cafés. (The figure is calculated on town size, so Preston needs 26 shops and 13 cafés). They must indicate this with stickers/certificates. A Fairtrade directory must be produced.
- Fairtrade products must be used by a number of workplaces and community organisations, such as churches, schools and voluntary organisations.
