The Harris

Grandly overlooking the Flag Market in the heart of the city centre, The Harris is a Grade I listed neo-classical building designed by local architect James Hibbert and built in 1893 to house the Harris Museum, art gallery and library.

Guided tours are offered to members of the public, taking in the museum's vast collections of fine art, decorative art, costume and textiles, history and photography as well as the building itself, including the famous Egyptian balcony.

The Harris has recently been illuminated at night as part of the flare project to make the city more attractive after dark.
